2006–2010 PROGRESS REPORT
Disability
- Faurot Field added a new captioned scoreboard.
- The Chancellor’s Committee for Persons with Disabilities
received approval and provost support to reactivate Access Mizzou, a voluntary initiative to review accessibility issues of academic units. - The Chancellor’s Committee for Persons with Disabilities is currently investigating the possibility of a policy which would require that, prior to purchase of computer software, university buyers would have to consider issues of compatibility with accessibility tools.
- The Adaptive Computing Technology Center
, ET@MO
, and the Office of Disability Services
are exploring ways in which to improve communication accessibility (e.g., captioning videos, post-production) and educate faculty and staff on the importance of universal design principles to improve teaching and learning. - MU adopted a new service animal policy
that permits service animals assisting individuals with disabilities in all MU facilities and programs, subject to certain conditions (i.e., the animal must have necessary vaccinations, must be kept on a leash, etc.). - MU students formed two new student organizations
, the Sight Club and the MU chapter of Delta Alpha Pi, a national honor society for students with disabilities. For at least nine years prior to these two groups forming, no official student organizations specifically addressed the concerns or interests of students with disabilities. - The Chancellor’s Committee for Persons with Disabilities completed the "Disability Prevalence, Awareness and Accessibility" electronic survey of employees to identify areas that still need to be addressed.
