Hate and Bias
- Students, administrators, faculty and staff worked together under the theme of unity following a racially-charged bias incident at the Gaines/Oldham Black Culture Center at the end of Black History Month 2010.
- The bias incident reporting form
was launched on the MU Equity Office website. - A short diversity-themed video created specifically for MU was added to the Summer Welcome session "Building Our Community" attended by all incoming freshmen. Healthy discussion was generated in the small group sessions that followed the general session. Work on an enhanced version of the video is now underway.
- Residential Life added a leadership development component and hired student leadership advisors. The leadership program helps students explore their own beliefs and gain greater understanding of the experience of others; students increase their ability to engage with their peers despite differences in background, beliefs and perspectives.
