Access Mizzou

What is Access Mizzou?

The Access Mizzou initiative began about two years ago, building on a spring 2004 campus "accessibility tour" by former University President Elson Floyd.

Access Mizzou is designed to support top campus leaders in their efforts on behalf of equal opportunity for faculty, staff, and students with disabilities.

The initiative encourages involvement of the entire campus in collaborative efforts to ensure that people with disabilities have every opportunity to participate fully in campus life, rather than delegation of disability responsibilities to a few campus units.

Access Mizzou is proactive, positive, and voluntary; it incorporates ADA compliance, but is not a compliance program.

It works primarily through the Chancellor’s Office and the Deans of each of MU’s schools to provide disability-related information and recommendations regarding employment, teaching and learning, accessibility, equally effective communication, and the like. Access Mizzou also offers customized training, technical assistance, and individual assistance upon request.
