MIZZOUDIVERSITY ANNOUNCEMENT
MU Celebrates Coming Out Week: Oct. 10 - 15, 2011
Whether you are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer or a straight ally, we invite you to share your support and join the University of Missouri LGBTQ Resource Center in a week long celebration of our LGBTQ community. You can learn about the challenges of coming out at the InsideOut weekly discussion group, find out how to be a more effective ally through Safe Space Training, and help show your support for all Tigers at the 16th annual Show Your Support Photo on the North steps of Jesse Hall. Choose from many activies and learn more as you help build a respectful and safe world for LGBTQ individuals.
National Coming Out Day (NCOD) was established in 1988 by Robert Eichsberg and Jean O'Leary following the October 11, 1987 march on Washington for Lesbian and Gay Rights. Since then, many gay, lesbian, bisexual, queer and transgender people and allies celebrate NCOD across the country with events and informational activities that help promote awareness of LGBTQ individuals living honest and open lives.
Coming Out Week is sponsored by the LGBTQ Resource Center.

- Show Your Support. Come to the Photo.
5:00 p.m., North steps of Jesse Hall, The Quad
Sponsored by the LGBTQ Resource Center
This year, for the 16th year in a row, a group of MU students, faculty, alumni and staff are gathering on the North steps of Jesse Hall to show their support for ALL tigers, and specifically for those tigers in the LGBTQ community here at MU. So often, the hate and negativity experienced by our population is given media coverage, while the love and support of the majority of our campus and community is missed. For this, our 100th Homecoming, the photo will be published in the Maneater on the back of the sign students take to the football game. We want to show our extended Mizzou family how welcoming we are to every tiger on our campus. So come join us, Truman the Tiger, and so many others, as we show our support of our LGBTQ Mizzou. Be a part of One Mizzou. And be a part of the 100th Homecoming Edition of The Maneater. - Thanks for Your Support. Have Some Fun!
5:15 - 7 p.m., Heidelberg, 410 S. 9th St.
Sponsored by the LGBTQ Resource Center
After the photo, head on over to the Berg for some free appetizers and fun. Let's celebrate the support we have, and make some new friends in the process. All those in the photo are invited and welcomed to come!
