Muslim holy month of Ramadan runs through August 18, 2012
The Islamic month of Ramadan begins at sunset on Friday, July 20 and runs through sunset on Saturday, August 18. Ramadan signifies the revelation of the Qur'an to Muhammad; and is marked as a time to focus on faith through fasting and prayer for observant Muslims. Fasting is broken at night with prayer, reading of the Qur'an and a meal called the iftar.
Please remember to accommodate food restrictions during this important month of reflection and worship. If planning an evening event, provide food accommodation after dark as requested. Food prohibitions also include pork and alcohol.
