Ramadan, Islamic Holiday, July 8-Aug. 7, 2013
The Islamic month of Ramadan begins at sunset on Monday, July 8 and runs through sunset on Wednesday, Aug. 7. Ramadan signifies the revelation of the Qur'an to Muhammad; and is marked as a time to focus on faith through fasting and prayer for observant Muslims. Fasting is broken at night with prayer, reading of the Qur'an and a meal called the iftar.
Please remember to accommodate food restrictions during this important month of reflection and worship. If planning an evening event, provide food accommodation after dark as requested. Food prohibitions also include pork and alcohol.
