Battle: Change from Within Film Screening

May 04, 2012 at 2:00 PM to May 04, 2012 at 3:00 PM
Engineering Bldg. West Auditorium, Rm. 102

Description

Please join College of Education faculty and professional staff in viewing and discussing this important film about Eliot Battle, a Columbia educator and leader who made a difference.  Facing resistance from both the black and white communities, Battle facilitated changes with quiet resolve.  His calm demeanor and dedicated work within existing institutions and systems enabled him to bridge the gap between the two races and change Columbia for the better.  The documentary helps us answer important questions as individuals.  How can we be agents for change?  What is our responsibility?  What kind of courage does it take?  How can we be an advocate for students?  How can we lead within our communities?  In telling his family's story, Battle helps show us the way.

Barbara Williamson, Julie Middleton, and Michael Hicks, the film's co-producers, will be available to answer questions.

Free and open to the public.

Sponsored by the MU College of Education.
