Difficult Dialogues

The University of Missouri-Columbia was one of 27 higher education institutions to receive $100,000 grants for projects that promote academic freedom and constructive dialogue on campus.

MU has planned a program of faculty development, undergraduate education, and campus-wide public forums designed to promote civil discourse, enhance campus climate, and accentuate the importance of academic freedom in the context of religious and human diversity.

This is a multifaceted, interdisciplinary initiative that will increase participants' confidence to engage in civil dialogue on potentially divisive issues.

Our emphasis on dialogue, deliberation, and dispute resolution invites faculty and students to revitalize a central mission of the university to provide stewardship for free expression in a democratic society.
