Professional Development

Have you experienced difficult dialogues in your classroom, workplace or other setting? Have you experienced difficult dialogues in your classroom, workplace or other setting? Do you want to be better prepared to facilitate dialogue on controversial topics in an effective way? If you want to work on these skills, join the Difficult Dialogues Professional Development Program!

Professional development activities will be provided within a 2-week summer institute held from 1-5 p.m. on June 20, 21, 22, 27, 28, 29. The summer institute will include:

  • learning and practicing classroom techniques in conflict resolution
  • practicing the learned techniques, responding to classroom scenarios, and encouraging cross-cultural empathy through interactive theatre
  • increasing understanding of campus climate for diversity in higher education related to race, gender and sexual orientation, and
  • examining the intersections between the movement toward intellectual diversity and academic freedom, the cornerstone of higher education.

Faculty and staff fellows will receive a $500 stipend for their full completion of the program. Graduate student will receive a $250 stipend for the full completion of the program.
