The MU Equity Office provides campus-wide leadership, coordination, and assistance on matters of equity and compliance.

We provide technical advice and counsel faculty, staff, and students who believe they may have been subjected to harassment or discrimination.

What do we mean by "equity"?

The concept of equity relates to the securing of equal opportunity and equal access and it incorporates the judicial concept of equal protection under the law. Fairness and impartiality are central to the realization of equity.

The director of MU Equity is available to meet with faculty, students, and staff who need assistance. You can get help with questions such as:

• How to sort through what's really going on in a given situation (e.g., "Can my professor really say that? Am I being overly sensitive, or am I right to feel offended?")
• What are the formal and informal alternatives for addressing unwelcome behavior?
• How and where do I file a formal complaint or grievance?

The director may be authorized to conduct an investigation into the facts of a questionable situation and recommend, where appropriate, that certain steps be taken to remedy problem behavior.

In addition, instructors and supervisors are welcome to consult with the director regarding the handling of problems they identify in the classroom or workplace.
