International students sponsor fundraiser for near-drowning victim

Over a month after MU graduate student Yirui Wei nearly drowned in the Tara Apartments pool, friends and family have begun efforts to help pay for the expensive rehabilitation she will need.

Creativity can be expressed in many ways. This program series offers an opportunity for young and old alike to share their talents as poets, spoken word artists, musicians or singers. Bring an original or favorite word creation, such as a poem, story or song, to share with the audience. KOPN radio personality Tyree Byndom will be the host for this open mic program.

Services for Independent Living are hosting Trivia Night on Friday

Services for Independent Living are hosting Trivia Night on Friday, July 31 from 6:30 to 10pm at Rock Bridge High School. This event will support the Driving Force Power Soccer Team in Columbia to attend a power soccer camp in Minnesota. Power Soccer is a competitive sport played by athletes who use power wheelchairs. Camp cost $400 for players and coaches and $300 for support staff which includes the camp, food, and lodging. Please attend the Trivia Night and invite people to be on your team at $15 per person or $100 for a table of 8.

LGBTQ community reflects on recent accomplishments

Last month, the Mid-Missouri LGBT Coalition hosted the sixth annual PrideFest at Stephens Lake Park. This event and similar celebrations across the country were held in the spirit of the 1969 Stonewall Riots, which were riots caused by the New York Police Department's raid of a gay bar.

The University of Missouri has a number of programs to recruit minorities to the Columbia campus and retain them once they get there. But while the number of incoming black freshmen has increased in recent years, the black minority population on campus remains stubbornly below the percentage for the entire state and below that of other universities.

We're looking for fun-loving, responsible individuals who have a passion for helping youth find leadership opportunities, create safe spaces, enrich their lives through educational opportunities, and have an awesome time!
Prism is a drug, alcohol, and tobacco-free safe space for youth in mid-Missouri. We have many exciting events and opportunities coming up in the coming year - we hope you'll join us!!

"Latin American Trade" Training Program

IM International Marketing, LLC, with support from Kansas City SmartPort, has developed "Latin American Trade," a training program for small to medium-sized U.S. companies targeting Mexico, Central and South America. The program consists of nine (9) sessions and it meets once a month on the first Thursday of each month for four (4) hours in the evening. Start date is July 9 and the program ends March 4, 2010.
Date: July 9, 2009 through March 4, 2010 (Meetings are on the first Thursday of each month)
