Chancellor's Committee on the Status of WomenStaff Women's ReceptionSeptember 28, 2005 Purpose of the Reception:The Provost office, Human Resources office and MU Chancellor's Committee on the Status of Women are sponsoring this reception. The groups and people sponsoring this are here because they support opportunities for women to network and discuss mutual issues that come up during their careers at the University. Feedback from this type of session can help the University understand, study and resolve issues as they arise. Karen Touzeau has agreed to be our facilitator and will lead you through discussion on two topics. Agenda
Bonnie GreggThank you all for coming We have refreshments in the back so please feel free to get them throughout the meeting. Thank the Provost office, Human Resources office and Status of Women Committee for suggesting this type of a forum. Status of Women Committee, please stand. Bina Van Mali and I are Co-Chairs of this event. Introduce Karen Touzeau. Karen will introduce our guests then facilitate the discussion on Women's issues and future opportunities you might like to see down the road. Karen TouzeauIntroductions : brief, not formal Provost, Brian Foster Vice Provost, Lori Franz Deputy Chancellor, Mike Middleton (a few words) I would like to thank the Provost office for initiating this reception and the Chancellor's Committee on the Status of Women for putting it all together. You may be aware that a faculty reception was held in the spring of this year to discuss issues facing faculty women. The Status of Women Committee and the Provost office will be working together to determine the best way to pursue the results of that discussion. We would like to break this discussion into two parts; two general areas of discussion. (see agenda) Each table spend a few minutes discussing the topic and then we'll talk about it as a group. You have someone at each table who will take minutes of the table discussion and who can help you to keep track of your ideas. At the end of your discussion (5-10 minutes) I'd like to ask the tables to share their ideas. This is not formal so anyone can feel free to share their ideas. We won't have time to come up with solutions, but perhaps can share a few remedies that some of you may know about and prioritize the ideas/issues. Close by saying that if the staff member signed the sheet at each table and gave their e-mail address, we will create a list serve and get back to them with consolidated notes from this reception. We'll also be asking if some of them would like to be part of a committee to study the issues. Before you go, let me ask if you all felt this was a worthwhile get together?? Mike MiddletonTalk about the Chancellor's support of this session. May mention the faculty women's reception and if he feels some of those issues can be studied. What he would like to see as a result of this reception. |
