Q & A

Q: What is YOU IN MIZZOU?

YOU IN MIZZOU! is a program sponsored by the Chancellor's Diversity Initiative. It incorporates respectful dialogue and small circle discussions about how specific issues on campus personally affect people.

Q: What is the goal of YOU IN MIZZOU?

A: Our goal is to include everyone at Mizzou. The title of our program asks that critical question; do you see yourself in Mizzou? If not, then what should we begin discussing in order to capture the tremendous diversity on our campus and ensure that everyone is included? These are questions we consider when we offer the dialogue series each semester.

Q: How is YOU IN MIZZOU! different from other forums and panels on campus?

A: Our program is not a debate, a forum, or a panel. We encourage everyone to participate in small circle dialogues. We do not expect everyone to come into agreement on particular issues. Instead, we encourage respect, tolerance and appreciation of other viewpoints and perspectives.

Q: How do you hope this program impacts campus?

A: Our hope is that students, staff and faculty will find our program a safe space to have important discussions about issues that are hard to address. By sharing experiences in small groups, people are better able to understand others who occupy this campus right alongside them. It is important to begin breaking down the barriers so we can foster a more inclusive campus community, which in turn yields a richer academic environment.
