The third system-wide offering of this annual professional development workshop will be held in Columbia and is open to faculty, staff and graduate students from the UM System including MU, UMKC, Missouri S&T and UMSL, as well as those from UM System central administration, MU Health Care and MU Extension.
Creating an Inclusive, Socially Just Campus With the Social Justice Training Institute

How are attendees selected? The program will capped at 60 participants. In the application review process, we will strive to ensure representation from all of the campuses, with priority given to those who have participated in previous diversity training or leadership development events.
The Social Justice Training Institute provides a forum for the professional and personal development of social justice educators and practitioners to enhance and refine their skills and competencies to create greater inclusion for all members of the campus community. Faculty, staff and graduate students are invited to participate in a one-day training event with faculty from the Social Justice Training Institute. During the days, participants will engage in authentic dialogue about the current campus climate, as well as cultural and organizational dynamics, through the lens of inclusion. Additionally, participants will reflect on their own social group identities in relation to privilege and oppression, and consider the way those identities influence inclusion work. In doing so, we will create more inclusive campus environments to enhance success for all students.

dr. becky martinez is an organization development consultant and trainer with a focus on social justice, leadership and organizational change. Her work focuses on dismantling systems of oppression through critical dialogue and reflection intertwined with theoretical foundations. She works with organizations seeking to meet shifting demands, resources and leadership to develop goals, vision and purpose.
Rev. Samuel Offer
Sam Offer serves as Vice President and senior consultant with the Washington Consulting Group, a Multicultural Organizational Development Firm out of Baltimore, MD. His work includes developing presentations and workshops for colleges, universities and corporate and non-profit businesses; developing and implementing curriculum for local religious and community organizations to engage social justice issues in order to build more inclusive communities; developing and implementing curriculum for engaging spirituality and religion in the workplace; facilitating group sessions and trainings on topics including leadership, organizational change development, spirituality, diversity, inclusivity, leadership and social justice.

As a result of participating in this session, attendees will:
- Engage in authentic dialogue about the dynamics of inclusion and exclusion on campus.
- Explore how the dynamics of privilege, marginalization and intersecting identities impact the success of faculty, staff and students.
- Deepen their capacity to recognize and mitigate exclusionary behaviors and interrupt micro aggressions.
- Identify next steps for leadership and organizational development by using the 6-phase model (MCOD) to begin to analyze the degree of social justice and inclusion within the institution.
- Identify specific strategic activities that support organizational movement toward becoming a more inclusive and socially just campus.
