Mizzou Black Women’s Initiative

Mizzou Black Women’s Initiative (MBWI) is a one-year leadership and identity development program provided by the Gaines/Oldham Black Culture Center (GOBCC). The purpose of MBWI is to equip Black female students with the appropriate tools to be successful leaders in their undergraduate careers and future endeavors. We plan to achieve this through our four operating pillars; Academic Readiness, Career Readiness, Establishing Community, and Identity Exploration. Students selected for the MBWI program can earn up to three elective credits toward their graduation requirements. We are currently accepting applications for our 2020-21 MBWI cohort!

If you are interested in taking advantage of this awesome opportunity, you must submit an online application. To access the electronic application, visit MBWI on EngageAll applications must be submitted by 11 p.m. Sunday, July 26. If you have any specific questions, you can contact Velma Buckner, Program Instructor, via email at BucknerV@missouri.edu.

Mizzou Black Men’s Initiative (MBMI) is a two-year leadership and identity development program provided by the GOBCC. We understand that leaving home can be challenging, therefore, the purpose of the program is to assist in the successful transition of Black freshmen males into the collegiate environment. There are three pillars that guide the operation of the program: Support, Development, and Involvement. Students selected for MBMI can earn up to four elective credits toward their graduation requirements. We are currently accepting applications for our 2020-21 MBMI ’24 cohort!
