Annual McNair Day Celebration

Learn more about this event.

The University of Missouri McNair Scholars Program invites you to the Virtual Annual McNair Day Celebration, Sunday, November 7, 2021 from 2-4 p.m.

The McNair Scholars Program is an undergraduate research internship and graduate school preparation program funded by the Department of Education. The program serves first generation and underrepresented students, providing them with funding for research and other professional developmental opportunities, in the effort to prepare them for graduate school.

McNair Day celebrates the life and legacy of Ronald E. McNair (our program namesake).  It also provides a platform for McNair alumni to give insight into how the McNair Program contributed to their path to graduate school. Alumni also share their experiences of resiliency while doing research and academics.

The event’s keynote address will be given by Dr. Marcus Huggans,  Executive Director of client relations for The National GEM Consortium.  Dr. Huggans is an alumnus of Missouri S&T, where he received his PhD in Engineering Management. He was also a recipient of the GEM Fellowship and has extensive experience in the STEM field with over 25 years of working in industry, academia, and non-profits. Dr Huggans will deliver a powerful message that embodies the essence of First-Generation Week, titled “You Are Worth the Investment.”
