MU Celebrates Juneteenth at Douglass Park

Mizzou’s Division of Inclusion, Diversity & Equity was proud to co-sponsor the Juneteenth Block Party at Douglass Park on Saturday, June 19, 2021 from noon to 2 p.m.

Events included a guided tour of the African American Heritage Trail, live music, free food and various games and activities. The event was coordinated and hosted by Columbia Parks and Recreation. Along with MU campus leaders, students, staff, and members of the Mizzou community attended the event. The MU Division of IDE partnered with City of Columbia for the event.

Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States. From its Galveston, Texas origin in 1865, the observance of June 19th as the African American Emancipation Day has spread across the United States and beyond.
