Anna Marie Romero is a native of Santa Fe, New Mexico (United States).  She has 31 years of experience in higher education and 36 years in journalism.

She has two bachelor’s from New Mexico State University in Journalism/Mass Communications and Foreign Languages.  Her master’s degree is in Spanish Literature from the University of Texas at El Paso.

She was an associate professor in the Missouri School of Journalism for 28 years and most recently worked with a transitional living program for teenage girls.  The program was designed to get youth out of foster care or restrictive living programs and into a facility that emphasized higher education, finding employment and independent living.

Romero’s devoted herself to the recruitment and retention of students, staff and faculty of diverse backgrounds.  She’s served on several MU committees to promote diversity and supports a culture of inclusive excellence.  She is one of the founders of several organizations and a center on the MU campus for Hispanics/Latinos and the LGBTQ+ community.

She truly believes in paying if forward and has witnessed first-hand that the more you give the more you receive.
