La Toya Stevens is the director of communications for the University of Missouri’s Division of Inclusion, Diversity and Equity. Prior to joining the University of Missouri in 2021, she served as the Director of Marketing and Communications for the Heart of Missouri United Way. During her time at United Way, Stevens was identified as a top-performing professional and was selected as a 2021 United Way Worldwide Fellow. Stevens was also one of nine people selected to serve as a member of the United Way Worldwide Content Review Committee, where she was responsible for reviewing all marketing materials and providing feedback prior to the distribution to the United Way Network of more than 1,100 United Ways around the world.

In her current role she oversees the development, implementation and measurement of integrated communications and marketing strategy for MU’s Division of Inclusion, Diversity and Equity to achieve leadership priorities. Stevens provides executive counsel, advice and support to the Vice Chancellor for Inclusion, Diversity and Equity and other senior leaders to ensure high quality communications and alignment of brand narrative for IDE. Stevens also provides guidance to communicators throughout the university to promote best practices in inclusive communications and marketing.

Stevens has built her career advocating for socially, culturally and economically diverse communities by using her strategic communications and marketing skills to advance inclusive marketing practices and increase the awareness of inclusion, diversity and equity in the nonprofit and higher education sectors.
